Dick Walkington And His Cat (February 1972)
[This was Walkington Pantomime Players’ first panto and the following details are displayed in the Village Hall.]
Brief Story
Dick is a village boy and lives with his widowed mother “Dolly Poliver”. He has a girlfriend “Petulea Pape” and a cat named “Frowey”.
His best friend is Buttons and his girlfriend is “Silvia Mudd”.
Dolly and Dick are very poor, so poor in fact that one day dolly has to tell dick to go to market and sell his cat. On the way he meets Bernie Herdsman, a villain if ever there was one. Bernie buys the cat for a few beans and a sprout.
When Dick returns home Dolly is not too pleased and she throws the beans away. The next morning a giant sunflower has grown where the beans landed. Dolly goes and enters the sunflower competition.
The sunflower wins first prize and Dick becomes a celebrity. He is made Lord Mayor of Walkington and so the plot unfolds to a very happy ending.
We wish to acknowledge the lone of sprouts and beans from Mr and Mrs Bilham in the village shop.
